This upcycled, oversized vest/tunic is dyed by hand with indigo and Shibori techniques create the resist pattern. The arm holes are hand stitched to create a clean edge. The sleeves were repurposed to create two large, functional pockets with modern embroidery embellishments for accent. Additional stitching at the yoke finish the piece perfectly.
Wear it as a layering piece throughout all seasons. It could also be buttoned and/or worn with a belt to change the look.
When I am working on a upcycled or repurposed piece (garment or accessory), I like to think of the story that I am adding to the fabric. I think about the people who made the cloth, who pieced the fabric together to make a garment, and who originally purchased the piece. I am then adding another layer to the materials story through dyeing and stitching in my studio. I think about the potential buyers of the piece and what kind of life the fabric will continue to lead. Not only is upcycling good for the planet because it keeps unnecessary materials out of the landfills, but it also honors the work of many people who brought those materials to life.

Note: Due to the differences in computer and phone screens, colors may be slightly different in real life. I do my best to represent the true color of the product.
This item is handmade and may contain slight imperfections. This doesn’t affect the overall integrity of the item and adds to its handmade charm.
