Sometimes you find a really special fabric that is narrower than your zero-waste pattern layout and a few adjustments need to be made. I'm getting ready to cut into some beautiful fabric from @loomandstars for my final #lLettieSkirt sample, but first I needed to adjust my pattern layout to work with the fabric width. This is a representation of what I do on the computer to make these changes. My upcoming pattern will include instructions on how to modify the pattern layout if you find yourself in the same position.

I'm just about ready to start pattern testing the Lettie Skirt and I'm looking for people who are interested in participating. Testing will run from Sept 4th-25th. If you are interested in pattern testing fill out the form in my bio.

Lettie Skirt Details:
• Minimal waste 6 panel skirt with a flat front, elastic back and partial button placket.
• There will be printable pattern files along with dimensioned layouts to draft directly to the fabric and projector files.
• Size range: Waist -25"-58"(63.5cm-147.3cm), Hips-33"-66"(83.8-167.6cm)
• Skill Level - Intermediate
• Compensation - $25 USD materials reimbursement and a copy of the final pattern.

Happy pattern release day to the Sour Cherry Button-up shirt!! I had the pleasure of testing this pattern from @doubleugly.studio and it's such a fun and satisfying sew. I especially love the raglan sleeves!!

I made a size 5 based on my chest measurements and added 2" to the length. I've definitely got plans to make another one - maybe one in lace!?!? Worn with my #clobiasskirt

I'm so bad at remembering to take photos of everyday outfits, but yesterday while wandering around Manhattan, my hubby caught me looking up at all the buildings while our daughter ran around at the playground. We both studied architecture in college so when we're walking around there is a lot of looking up and admiring all the different buildings.

FOUND! FIT TESTER NEEDED - waist 48"-58", hips 56"-66"

I've been pretty quiet the last month or so as I have been working diligently on the pattern for this skirt - the Lettie Skirt. I have made a lot of progress and now I'm looking for a fit tester - someone within the above size range that would be willing to help me fit this skirt.

Lettie Skirt features:
• 6 panel skirt
• Flat front with elastic back
• Button placket with integrated buttonholes
• Front pleats
• Flat piping between each skirt panel
• Side slit
• Midi length with a deep hem
• Pockets!

I'm open to someone in NYC (I'm in Astoria) or someone not local to me. If you're local, I could sew up the test muslin/s. If you're not local, either I could sew the muslin/s and mail it to you or you could sew it up yourself.

As for as compensation goes, I'm not at the point where I can pay the full going rate for something like this, but I would still like to be able to pay something. I'm not sure what that looks like and I would love your thoughts as part of this process.

Happy pattern release day to the #lupitachiquita by @msromoscreations 🎉 I was lucky to test this pattern for Cynthia and my 6 year old daughter could not be more pleased!

This is a quick and fun sew. The instructions are written out in text with video tutorials for the steps. I made my daughter a size 5 based on her measurements - she's a 🥜. Since the testing phase, the back neckline has been raised some.

I used some cotton shirting that's been sitting on my shelf for far too long - the wrong side of the fabric worked perfectly for the ruffled sleeve caps and the ties. I can see this pattern being a real scrap buster.

Also, check out Cynthia's page for info on the adult version #lalupitadress #lalupitawrapdress. I haven't made one for myself yet, but I have a feeling it won't be long before I have one for myself!

The Pierce Shirt hack is live! Full details are outlined on my website - the 🔗 is in my bio.

For my version, I sewed a size G and I left the original length - although a cropped version would be very easy to make by just shortening at the lengthen/shorten line.
I finished the sleeves with bias binding. I also used snaps instead of buttons and I love the subtle work wear vibe that the snaps give.

Fabric: Nocturne Everyday Chambray from @surgefabricshop - this fabric is a pleasure to work with and feels so nice to wear

It took about 10 minutes to draft the pattern layout to the fabric and probably about the same amount to iron the fabric first (also done on the floor on a wool ironing mat).

Here is your invitation to play with your pattern

Here is your invitation to play with your pattern pieces! I know a lot of people get nervous with the thought of hacking or modding a zero-waste pattern, but I promise it's not too scary. Sure, you need to understand how the pattern comes together before you make major changes, but that's true of most sewing patterns.

A low commitment way to get started is to print out a small version of the pattern layout. Then cut out the pieces and get playing - move and adjust the pieces to work with your fabric or make changes to the design.

Here I'm prepping for a short sleeve hack of the #PierceShirt. Now that I know where all the pieces go, I can adjust the full sized pattern pieces and get sewing. I plan on doing a full write up of this process so keep an eye out over the next couple of weeks as I work on this hack. I'm hoping to share a lot of process in my stories too (as long as I remember 🫣).

This final sample was made from 7oz linen. I’ve had this fabric in my collection for a while just waiting for the day that I would be brave enough to make myself a white shirt. Now that it’s made I’m nervous to wear it! But I’m in love with the classic, but modern and casual feel of the shirt so I’m just going to have to get over it. I wonder what I will spill on it first?

These still photos highlight all the details in the pattern - asymmetric pintucks, a deep inverted back pleat, curved split hem that is finished with bias binding, bias bound sleeve plackets, and all the interior seams a cleanly for a beautifully finished garment.

The Pierce Shirt is finally here! I’m so happy to have this pattern out in the world. If you have been following me for a while, you have seen the slow development of this pattern over the past months, and I’m delighted with how everything turned out.

The Pierce shirt is a zero/minimal waste oversized button-up with a deep curved hem and a split side seam. It features unique details and engaging construction elements that make it fun to sew. I have spent a lot of time working on these details, and while I’m pleased with how everything works together, I’m particularly fond of asymmetric pintucks and the finishing of the side seam split and hem.

Happy pattern release day to the #ZWCargoSkirt by @the_sew_sew. This zero waste pattern comes in two lengths with multiple waist and pocket options.

I made View 2 in the long length for my tester version. It includes the 3D cargo pockets and zipper welt pockets. I also used a two-way zipper for the center front.

Fabric: 8.5oz cotton canvas from @blackbirdfabrics

The pattern is drafted to your measurement and Cindy has included lots of info and templates to walk you through the process.

The #SWSRue quilt coat by @spaghetti_western_sewin

The #SWSRue quilt coat by @spaghetti_western_sewing is out today! I had the pleasure of testing this pattern and I'm so thrilled with my final coat. I made a size XS, but it did shrink about 1 size and I don't mind. I didn't adjust the length - the pattern is drafted for a 5'2" person and I'm 5'4".

For the quilting, I used an old wool blanket that my grandparents had given us when we got married almost 19! Years ago. It had a few moth holes in it so I thought it would make perfect batting for an extra warm coat. I used all fabric from my stash - the inside is pieced together with leftover rectangles from other zero-waste garments. I quilted the whole thing freestyle - I just went with spacing that felt good and didn't try to make the lines straight. I still haven't finished putting the buttons on 🫣

This was such a fun pattern for scrap busting and I'm dreaming of making a lighter version. Congrats Sadie!!

The Pierce Shirt is ready for testing!

Details: The Pierce Shirt is a modern reinterpretation of an everyday wardrobe staple. The asymmetric pintuck detailing adds texture and interest without removing the classic feeling of the shirt. The pattern was designed using zero-waste pattern drafting techniques, and there is minimal fabric waste for some sizes to accommodate an extensive range of sizes.

The pattern is printed and not drawn directly to the fabric. The pattern includes detailed instructions for clean seam finishes throughout.

Size Range: Bust/Chest: 30"-64" (76.2-162.6cm) Waist: 24"-58" (61-147.3cm) Hip: 32"-66" (81.3-167.6cm)

Skill Level: Intermediate

Time Frame: The testing period will run from Feb 26th-March 18th*

Compensation: Upon completing the testing requirements, you will receive a $25 material reimbursement and a copy of the final pattern. No IG posts are required, but I appreciate your willingness to spread the word.

Today I'm working on a sample to test the fit of the #PierceShirt in a larger size than my own. I chose to draft the pattern directly to the fabric for this sample, but for the final pattern, a printable pattern will be provided.

I have been working hard on the grading and I'm hopeful that the test fit goes well. There are so many details to balance when you grade a pattern in general, but add the complexity of a zero-waste layout on top of that and you've got a lot to think about.
