Playing dress up again and thinking about holiday parties. ✨ When I made this cream Lettie Skirt I was hopeful that I would be able to wear it in a variety of ways...and so far it has not disappointed me. From a tee shirt and tennis shoes to lace and silver toed oxfords, it seems this skirt can do just about anything. Now, I'm wondering what red tights would look like. 🤔

Experimenting with ways to dress up an otherwise casual outfit --- My Jones Trousers and Pierce Shirts are closet staples and I love how these pieces can work for both everyday wear and can be elevated for a night out.

Now that I'm thinking about it, a shear Pierce Shirt would be a really fun!

I recently finished a new pair of #JonesTrousers.

I recently finished a new pair of #JonesTrousers. I love all my previous versions, but I was craving a longer pant to add to my wardrobe so for this version I increased the inseam by 3".

I also made the following changes:
- Eliminated the cuff and pleat at the leg opening. I also widened the leg opening by 1".
- Swapped out the inverted box pleat for a single deep pleat.
- I slightly curved the outer leg seam from the hip point down (I don't think this is very noticeable tho).

I made all these changes directly on the fabric when I was drafting the pattern.

I'm also wearing one of my favorite #PierceShirt and the #CapitalVV,est.

Yesterday, I had a "client" come to me with a request to fix up an unwearable sweatshirt - quickly because she had plans to meet her friends at the playground.

A few scraps and an hour later, my "client" was pleased and ready to head out for a chilly day at Central Park.

Happy pattern release day to the #LWhoodie by @the_sew_sew. I had the pleasure of testing this quick and satisfying low-waste sweatshirt. View A of the pattern is for exposed serger seams and View B is for regular, concealed seams. I really liked the texture of the back of this fleece fabric so I did a combo of both views and used exposed seams on the main body and concealed seams at the waistband, cuffs and hood. I wish I had put the wrong side out on the waistband and cuffs, but I thought about that after I had attached everything and I didn't want to take it apart.

Details:
I made a size 6/8 based on my bust measurement using cotton sweatshirt fleece from @lyricalfabrics. I shortened the sleeves by 2", but I will probably only do 1" on my next version. I'm wearing my LW hoodie layered over my #PierceShirt and with my #ShopPants.

This is a low-waste pattern that you draft directly to the fabric. It's a very straightforward pattern and is a good beginner zero/low waste pattern if you're looking to give ZW sewing a try. The pattern ranges from Size 00-28.

Note: Since testing finished, the waistband length has been reduced slightly so the waistband comes in just a bit more on the final pattern.

Yesterday, I headed to @moodfabrics in the Garment District to get some fabric for a couple of projects. I'm planning on making a slightly hacked pair of #JonesTrousers and a #PierceShirt.

I knew ahead of time what I was looking for and that really helped me not get too overwhelmed with all the options. There are so many beautiful fabrics, it's easy to get distracted so I'm glad I had a plan.

〰️Taking some time to play〰️

I've been wanting to make a zero-waste or minimal waste, bias cut top for a while and finally spent some time working on the concept this weekend.

The top is constructed from a single square of fabric (plus a narrow piece for the tie). The cinched hem was a last minute idea, but I love how the silhouette can be changed up so many ways.

Now I want to make another and play with the neckline a bit (it feels a bit wide - maybe, I don't know???) and maybe see how sleeves (short or long) could be added.

Here's a closer look at the details of the Lettie Skirt.

The partial button placket and flat piping are the stand out details, but the clean finished seams bring it to the next level. This skirt is pretty on the outside and the inside!

These finishing details do add extra time to the sewing process, but I think they are worth it. I love the sense of accomplishment when finishing a project like this.

The partial button placket with integrated buttonholes is one of my favorite details of the Lettie Skirt. I really enjoyed the challenge of figuring out how to make this work.

The button placket is the most complicated part of the whole sewing process of the Lettie Skirt, but if you follow each step and take your time, you will be thrilled with the end result. There is also a tutorial video on my website and YouTube channel for extra support.

I’m thrilled to introduce you to the Lettie Skirt - a minimal-waste PDF sewing pattern. The Lettie Skirt is a midi-length six-panel skirt featuring a partial button placket with integrated buttonholes, an elastic back, and flat piping details. The skirt's design creates a versatile, everyday staple with subtle details that elevate the garment.

While designing this skirt, I kept returning to the idea of wanting a skirt that wasn’t overly feminine. I have not been much of a skirt wearer in the past because, more often than not, I would feel too frilly when wearing them. The more popular styles with gathered waists and tiers left me feeling too fussy. I’m not sure what suddenly triggered my desire to design a skirt, but I knew I wanted to feel the same sense of ease I feel when wearing a skirt as I do when wearing my favorite pair of pants. This feeling was a driving factor while working through many samples during the design development phase.

The Lettie Skirt has a classic silhouette that is easy to wear and has unique elements that set it apart. It is a skirt that can be worn casually as well as dressed up. After wearing my samples all summer, the Lettie Skirt has become a closet staple for me.

Sometimes you find a really special fabric that is narrower than your zero-waste pattern layout and a few adjustments need to be made. I'm getting ready to cut into some beautiful fabric from @loomandstars for my final #LettieSkirt ettieSkirt sample, but first I needed to adjust my pattern layout to work with the fabric width. This is a representation of what I do on the computer to make these changes. My upcoming pattern will include instructions on how to modify the pattern layout if you find yourself in the same position.
